Nika Statham, Owner and Director
GYROTONIC® and Pilates teacher
Teaching at Esprit de Core Pilates in West Vancouver since 2001, Nika opened her own private practice in 2014, in Lower Lonsdale. Having studied ballet in her youth with Danielle Clifford, Lin Yee Goh, Choo Chiat Goh, Earl Kraul, and Grant Strate, Nika went on to attend UBC, where she studied Art History and Costume Design, achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre. During this time, she danced with Early Music Vancouver, specializing in Baroque Dance.
As a Pilates and GYROTONIC® teacher, her focus is to be present as a teacher and guide, encouraging students to actively participate in achieving their own goals as an artist, athlete, or in everyday life. Nika has experience teaching all ages and abilities, both group and private classes. She has a particular interest in working with dancers, and has had the pleasure of teaching students and professionals from many training facilities and companies, including Ballet Bloch Canada, Pacific Dance Arts, the Goh Ballet Academy, Modus Operandi, San Francisco Ballet, Tanzakademie Zurich, Ballet Kelowna, and the Dutch National Ballet.
Emilie Durville, GYROTONIC® Teacher
Emilie graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille, directed by Roland Petit, in 2001. After her training, she was involved in freelance projects in Europe, later joining Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, where she was promoted to first soloist in 2011.
She has worked with many international choreographers, including Jiri Kilian, Mats Ek, and Peter Quanz. Since 2014, Emilie has worked as a freelance dancer, teacher, rehearsal director and choreographer. She collaborates with various artists and Canadian companies, including most recently Ballet Kelowna. Emilie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her work as a Gyrotonic teacher, specializing in working with dancers, but also enjoying the diverse range of clients that the Gyrotonic method attracts.
Michaela Gobas, Guest GYROTONIC® Teacher
Originally from Vancouver, BC, Michaela trained at the Vancouver Junior Professional Division and the Pro Arte Centre in North Vancouver before graduating from the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC.
Following her graduation, Michaela started her professional career in 2015, performing ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen. She went on to spend two years touring every province of Canada in ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Swan Lake’ and Robert Desrosier’s ‘Bouffonia’. In 2019 she danced for the Canadian Opera Company in their premiere of David McVicar’s ‘Rusalka’ at the Four Seasons Centre. Since 2017 Michaela has worked with Ballet Ouest de Montreal, performing in ‘The Nutcracker’ and creating and premiering ‘Ella- The story of Cinderella’, which was performed around Quebec in 2019 and 2020. Michaela began her GYROTONIC® Teacher Training in 2017 and received her certification in November 2018. She has taught both ballet and Gyrotonic to students of all ages and abilities.
